Empowering Women in Gaza

“When you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just.” ~ Luke 14:13–14

This International Women's Day we honor women like Marwa, a participant in our Gaza program, who are making change around the world.

Marwa (above), a 30-year-old mother of six, lives in the village of Bani Suhaila in the Gaza Strip with her children and unemployed husband. Her children are only partially enrolled at local schools because they lack the funds to send them. Marwa is always hoping and trying to build a good future for her kids, who are in need of better education, healthcare, and nutrition.

“We couldn't provide the kids with the basics, and our poor conditions didn't allow us to plant our small home garden,”

Through your contributions, IOCC has provided Marwa with the agricultural tools she needs to make her garden flourish: seeds and seedlings, organic fertilizers, an irrigation system, training and more. “By attending the training, I've increased my agriculture and marketing knowledge; I've learned a lot of useful information,” she said.

Now Marwa's home garden produces enough to feed her family as well as to sell the extra goods at local markets. With her extra income, Marwa has been able to cover daily expenses including providing transportation costs for her children to attend school.

“This project helped me to make a new start. I'll keep working hard to make a good future for my kids.”

Please give generously today in honor of Marwa and other women who support their households around the world. #BeBoldForChange
